I’m not sure I can even express how magical my time at the Fish Factory was.
When I got there, I wasn’t exactly sure what I would write, but I knew that I’d come up with something that reflected the magic of the area.
I soon settled into a routine where I’d wake up, have a cup of tea while looking out at the fjord, go for a long walk, then settle into the Fish Factory to write and rewrite for 4-8 hours.
Within about a week, I started writing brand new, original myths about ancient gods, the moon, the aurora, death, etc. While few of them are specifically about Iceland, all have echoes of Iceland in them.
My goal was to write 30 new short pieces (about 1,500 – 2,000 words each), which I knew was ambitious. I thought if I could write 20 in 30 days that would be a win.
I wrote 28 pieces in 30 days and have a few ideas for some other ones that I’ll write in the next few months.
